Removing people from Super 8 footage
I'm about a quarter of the way through a project involving "people removal" from old Super 8 footage. Below is a sample of the work, which involves painting a backplate and tracking it to the footage since the camera is not stationary.

Oscar nominations
Last week, nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced. No big surprises. There's the usual overhyped frontrunner ("The King's Speech") that threatens to render the awards meaningless - and maybe they always have been. But hey, we can't help but compare and rank one thing against another. If the nominees in the major Oscar categories offer nothing unexpected, there are still surprises to be found in the more obscure categories such as Animated Short and Live Action Short. Pixar's "Day and Night" (screened in front of "Toy Story 3") is probably the only one you've seen. The rest should be available for download on iTunes!

Useful information... for me.
This post is just for me, so only read it if you've finished reading the ingredients of your favorite box of cereal.

A Reel Man's Short
I've been trying to decide (for quite some time) what computer animated short film I'd like to make. Since my production team consists of only me, it's been a struggle to think of an idea that is both interesting and doable by one person. At long last, I think I've come up with something that is possible for me to actually complete. I'm hoping I can finish it this year - so for now, I'm giving myself a deadline of December 31, 2011. The clock is ticking!
